How the RSI oversold bounce strategy works
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) measures the speed of recent price moves on a 0–100 scale. Readings below 30 are called oversold and above 70 overbought. This mean-reversion strategy buys when RSI climbs back above 30 and sells when RSI reaches 70.
Rules
- Buy when RSI(14) crosses above 30.
- Sell when RSI(14) crosses above 70, or at an 8% stop-loss.
Mean-reversion works best in ranging markets and can suffer in strong down-trends, which is why a stop-loss is included. Try RSI(2) with levels 10/90 for a short-term variant.
