SIP backtest

What would a monthly SIP in any mutual fund be worth today? Real NAV, real dates, real XIRR — not an assumed return.

How the SIP backtest works

On your SIP day each month we buy units at that day’s NAV (or the next business day). The step-up increases the instalment once a year. All units are then valued at the latest NAV, and the return is measured with XIRR — the same method fund houses use in SIP performance statements. Compare the result with a lump sum invested on the first SIP date to see how rupee-cost averaging worked for this fund.

Planning a future SIP instead? Use the SIP calculator or the step-up SIP calculator.

FAQ

What is a SIP backtest?

A backtest replays history: we “invest” your monthly amount on the same date every month using the fund’s actual NAV on that day, then value all units at the latest NAV. It shows what really would have happened — not a projection.

What is XIRR?

XIRR is the annualised return of a series of cash flows on different dates. Because every SIP instalment is invested on a different date, XIRR is the correct way to measure SIP returns.

What is step-up SIP?

With a step-up (top-up) SIP you increase the monthly amount by a fixed percentage every year, usually in line with salary increases.

Does the backtest include taxes and exit load?

No. Values are before tax and exit load. The NAV already includes the fund’s expense ratio.
