Gold rate — FAQ
How is today’s gold rate calculated?
We take the live international gold price per troy ounce, convert it to rupees at the current USD/INR rate, add India’s import duty (15%) and show the price per gram. 3% GST is added when you buy. Jewellers also add making charges, so your bill will be higher.
What is the difference between 24K, 22K and 18K gold?
24K is 99.9% pure gold, 22K is about 91.6% (used for most Indian jewellery) and 18K is 75% gold. Lower purity is cheaper per gram and harder, which suits stone-set jewellery.
Why are gold rates different in different cities?
Local taxes, transport, demand, jewellers’ association rates and making charges cause small differences between cities. The base metal price is the same.
Is it better to buy physical gold, gold ETFs or Sovereign Gold Bonds?
Physical gold has making charges and storage risk. Gold ETFs and gold mutual funds track the price with low costs and can be sold any time. Compare costs, liquidity and tax before choosing.
The rates on this page are indicative estimates for information only and may differ from jewellers’ and bank rates. Always confirm the price and purity (BIS hallmark / HUID) before buying.
