Candlestick Chart

A candlestick chart shows price movement for a chosen period using "candles". Each candle displays four prices: open, high, low and close. The thick part (the body) runs from open to close; the thin lines (wicks or shadows) show the high and low.

A candle is usually green or hollow when the close is above the open, and red or filled when the close is below the open. Traders read single candles and groups of candles to understand whether buyers or sellers were in control.
