How the Income Tax Calculator FY 2026-27 works

Compare tax under the new regime (default) and the old regime for FY 2026-27 (AY 2027-28). New regime slabs: up to ₹4 lakh nil; ₹4–8 lakh 5%; ₹8–12 lakh 10%; ₹12–16 lakh 15%; ₹16–20 lakh 20%; ₹20–24 lakh 25%; above ₹24 lakh 30%. Salaried taxpayers get a ₹75,000 standard deduction, and the Section 87A rebate makes tax nil up to ₹12 lakh taxable income (with marginal relief just above).

Old regime: up to ₹2.5 lakh nil (₹3 lakh for 60–80, ₹5 lakh for 80+); ₹2.5–5 lakh 5%; ₹5–10 lakh 20%; above ₹10 lakh 30%; ₹50,000 standard deduction; rebate up to ₹5 lakh taxable income. 4% health & education cess applies in both. Surcharge on incomes above ₹50 lakh is included.

This is an estimate for planning. Consult a tax professional for filing.

FAQ

Which regime is better for me?

If your old-regime deductions (80C, 80D, HRA, home-loan interest) are large, the old regime may still save tax. Otherwise the new regime is usually lower. The calculator compares both.

Is income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free in the new regime?

Yes, for resident individuals the 87A rebate makes tax nil up to ₹12 lakh taxable income. With the ₹75,000 standard deduction, salaried people pay no tax up to ₹12.75 lakh gross salary (special-rate income like capital gains is treated separately).
